Opening Hours & 4 Software Film Presets

I am trying to upload at least something every week if possible. Even if it's just a single image. I thought I would take the image above and show a few examples of various film presets produced by four separate companies. On show we have VSCO Film Pack 1, Alien Skin, DXO FilmPack 5  & Mastin Labs Kodak Portra Pack .... let the games begin
Original Ricoh GR File

Basic Lightroom CC processed
DXO Film Pack Portra 400
Alien Skin Exposure 7 Portra 400

Mastin Labs Portra 400 - Base Preset N

Ricoh GR, Lightroom 5.7, VSCO Kodak Portra 400
So there you have it for a bit of fun. We have the following files
  • Original Ricoh GR File
  • Basic Lightroom CC processed
  • DXO Film Pack Portra 400
  • Alien Skin Exposure 7 Portra 400
  • Mastin labs Portra 400 - Base Preset N
  • Ricoh GR, Lightroom 5.7, VSCO Kodak Portra 400
Similar but subtle differences can be seen. this is just a fun comparison and to be honest if you took your time tweaking the presets you could really have them all looking virtually the same. 'Alien Skin's Exposure 7' I feel has the nicest interface and overall micro control. But both 'VSCO' and 'Mastin Labs' are great strait out of the can. When it comes to "accuracy' I feel DXO has it down pat. I shot a lot of Portra over the years and the DXO preset does a fine job.

Personally I actually use either VSCO or Exposure 7 for 80% of my color images. that said I still bounce around to the others for the hell of it and I am quite sure no one really gives a shit anyway.

Leica Q vs Ricoh GR

Quick comparison between the Leica Q & Ricoh GR .........Posted with Blogsy

RICOH GR MONOCHROME ....

Ricoh has a new patent (2016-201400) field in Japan for a Bayer sensor without a colour filter array (CFA) which should create sharper monochrome images. If dreams could come true a Ricoh GR Monochrome (ala Leica) would be an absolute corker.
We are all holding our breath for the Next incarnation of the Cult Ricoh GR APSC Camera. A 'Ltd Edition Monochrome' camera would be fantastic indeed.  Finger, toes and balls crossed.

VSCO FILM® 07 & Ricoh GR

Nice indeed, I'm really enjoying this pack. There is enough variety here that makes it worth the purchase, especially with the launch discount and stackable loyalty discount if you've purchased any one of their film packs before. Even still, VSCO packs are never cheap, and if you're wanting to get a good idea of the power of these presets and how easy they are to use, the new VSCO Film 00is aFREEstarter pack from VSCO - It has both Kodak Tri-Xand Kodak Gold 100. Back in the day, thats almost all one would need, so give it a crack - it's got more than just two presets, with all the variants you would expect (Kodak Tri-X 400 ++ anyone? :p )

VSCO Film 07 is available from the VSCO website,
